Lancaster, PA—The Community Action Program of Lancaster County received a $6,000 grant from Westfield Insurance Foundation thanks to the efforts of Lancaster-based EHD, one of the nation’s largest privately held insurance brokers. The grant is part of the new Westfield Legacy of Caring program in which Westfield agencies across the country were invited to nominate a local nonprofit in the areas of disaster relief, insurance pathways, family stability or safety.
“Thanks to the generous donation from Westfield Insurance Foundation and the support and assistance of EHD, we will be able to increase our efforts toward funding and establishing our Nature’s Classroom program,” said Megan DeMarra, CAP’s Chief Development Officer.
“Nature’s Classroom, which will bring an outdoor early-learning center and community garden to Lancaster City’s southeast neighborhood, is designed to improve the developmental outcomes of young children and the health and well-being of our neighbors,” DeMarra explained.
“We value our partnerships with our independent insurance agencies. Giving back to our agents’ communities in support of these key areas is an extension of the fundamental role that insurance plays every day in stabilizing families, businesses and communities,” said Ed Largent, Westfield President, CEO, board chair and Westfield Insurance Foundation chairman.
“All of us at EHD are proud members of the communities we call home. Our collaboration with Westfield allows us to further our citizenship efforts and have an impact in critically important initiatives, like CAP’s Nature’s Classroom,” said Jon Miles, President and CEO of EHD. “It’s these kinds of endeavors that help define EHD as a caring company and further our role in our respective communities.”
Miles noted that Westfield’s grant is in addition to a $12,500 minimum grant that EHD has already pledged to CAP’s Nature’s Classroom this year.
The CAP of Lancaster County is one of 45 nonprofit agencies nationwide to receive over $400,000 in donations from the Westfield Legacy of Caring program. Westfield is proud to work with their independent agents in distributing nearly $750,000 since the onset of the Legacy of Caring program last year.
EHD provides commercial and personal insurance, employee benefits, and risk management services to businesses and individuals throughout Pennsylvania and the mid-Atlantic region. Headquartered in Lancaster, PA, it has branch offices in Exton, Pittsburgh, and Wyomissing, PA.
CAP’s mission is to help people build self-sufficiency and eliminate poverty in Lancaster County. Each year, CAP reaches nearly 30,000 low-income families through services that support child development and education, health and nutrition, household stability, and public safety and violence prevention to help them not only meet their essential daily needs, but to work toward a brighter future of long term financial self-sufficiency.
